What a productive start to the teacher mentoring scheme! We couldn't have asked for a more enthusiastic and motivated teacher mentor group. The mentoring scheme is a pilot initiative set up by Rwanda Aid and overseen by Alex. A group of 18 teachers were selected from their sectors to take part in the Rusizi mentoring scheme. These mentors then assist and guide the teachers within their schools. This pilot scheme has proved to be so successful that it has been endorsed and supported by the Director General of the Rwandan Education Board and will be implemented in further districts. It is a credit to Alex and Rwanda Aid for investing in such a forward-thinking initiative.
Today we focused on the qualities we value in learners and teachers, mind mapping, questioning and assessment. We finished with lots of word games, which proved to be a huge hit, with some of the mentors creating their own versions of the games in their free time. During a game of 'Articulate', Alice was particularly impressed with how quickly they identified Chelsea from her very vague description!
We are really excited for the rest of the week with this brilliant group of mentors.
